Investigative Science Award Winner Takes 1st Place At Intel International Science And Engineering Fair Kayla Cornale, a grade 11 student at Assumption Catholic Secondary School in Burlington and two-time winner of the ISI award for creative problem solving at the Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair, won a first place Grand Award at this year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Kayla's project entitled Sounds into Syllables II: Windows to the World of Childhood Autism teaches children to read by assigning musical notes and harmonies to words, parts of speech and facial expressions. Kayla's work also earned her numerous awards at the Canada Wide Science Fair held in Saguenay, Québec. She finished first place in the Senior Health Sciences division, won the EnCana Platinum Award for Best Senior (Grade 11/12), and the EnCana Best of Fair award.
