ISI-mentored high school student wins big at local and international science fairs, publishes in Canadian Journal of Forensic Science

Anne Marie Child, who conducted the laboratory work for her project entitled Date Rape Drugs: Can They Be Detected? at the ISI laboratory in Burlington, Ontario, recently won a gold medal at the local Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF).

Along with her gold medal, was a chance to represent Canada at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (IISEF), in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the IISEF, Anne Marie placed fourth in chemistry and won an all expenses paid trip to Macau, China to participate in the China Association for Science and Technology fair, held in August 2006.

In 2007, ISI and Anne Marie published her work in the Canadian Journal of Forensic Science. This paper details the detection of the "date rape" drug, gamma-hydroxybutyrate, in an assortment of drinks using commercially available test kits.
